Guam Power Authority (GPA) on the Pacific island of Guam began installing advanced meters in 2012, writes Landis+Gyr in a statement. According to customer surveys conducted before and after the installation, overall customer satisfaction with GPA went up by 9 per cent since 2012 – and up 13 per cent for the utility’s customer service.

As Landis+Gyr explains, customer satisfaction is linked to improvements in outage response and billing changes. Since the advanced meters were installed, GPA has observed a sizable reduction in service calls and line losses, allowing them to keep power costs down and reduce connection fees.

“GPA is a perfect example of how a utility can undergo a radical cultural transformation through the adoption of technology,” said Abe Ortega, vice president of international sales and marketing at Landis+Gyr.

The advanced meters are a part of Landis+Gyr’s Gridstream AMI Solution, which improves grid operation by interfacing with existing utility systems and enabling two-way communications with meters, sensors and switches to provide interval load and voltage data and support net metering and outage management.
