For their study, Infras and the Öko Institute examined various forms of sustainable consumption patterns with a view to their economic and environmental benefits. Although their analysis demonstrated that sharing cars and housing can have a positive effect on the environment, the situation is less clear with respect to their economic impact.
The number of employees increased in both the car and housing sharing simulations, but it would be important to take the necessary measures to avoid the negative effects of car-sharing by working towards a societal shift from road traffic to public transport.
